Paper artist Liz Alcyone from Pierre, South Dakota and International Contemporary art sensation Q have joined forces this holiday season to bring a series of art pieces that are fun, bright and merge honored traditions with new ways of making art. This is an exclusive offering from Galaudet Gallery and at these wonderful prices we are very merry about it!

Each piece is made with Liz's handmade, naturally dyed mulberry paper. Liz uses her backyard mulberry tree to start the paper and can take all summer making the sheets she uses for different dyings. Liz learned her craft from her mom using this same tree and likes to think a sense of family and tradition are in each sheet she makes. This year she has chosen a Japanese Shibori style, or tie-dyed, motif to bring to mind galaxies and nebulas from Galaudet Gallery's exhibit Stars in a New Constellation.

Q is a well known provocateur from Algeria who met Liz at Galaudet Gallery's summer 2018 internationally juried show Sense of Place: HERE. The two hit it off and it found Q traveling to South Dakota to "meet" the Mulberry tree and Liz's family. The two have been making art since. Q's style is hinged on "calling the past to account for it's mistakes and making the very foundation of the past tremble" since Q feels that too much time is spent dwelling on the past and trying to connect the past with the present in art making instead of Q proposes making art from their life experiences, their intuition and their love.

So a traditional Midwest girl meets Q and this is the wonderful art they are selling exclusively at Galaudet Gallery over the holiday season. All works are framed and under glass.
